Hope for Refugees International
Hope for Refugees International (HRI) is a Black, refugee-led, gender-diverse grassroots organization committed to extending compassion, hope, and opportunity to Black African and LGBTQ+ refugees and asylum seekers displaced by conflict, persecution, and hardship. Based in Toronto, we support our members throughout their immigration and settlement journeys in Canada.
Our work centers on improving access to critical services and information related to housing, employment, immigration, and health. We place a strong emphasis on health promotion—especially mental health and wellness, HIV prevention, and sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR)—as well as sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) response and survivor support.
Our approaches are rooted in Afrocentrism, intersectionality, lived experiences, gender-based and culturally sensitive methods, and a firm commitment to human rights and social justice.
